Las Vegas Garage Doors | Time for some Fall cleaning

So many people think about cleaning during spring but they abandon most parts of their house and garage the rest of the year. This can make for a crazy amount of cleaning that is required in the spring. As with most things is better to keep up on all of the cleaning year round so it is easier at all times.

The fall is a great time to clean out your garage specially. We tend to get things over the summer when we are traveling around and the easiest place to put all of that stuff we get is in the garage. We intend to go in there an organize it the next day or weekend, but then it just keeps going and more stuff keeps getting added. But it is nice to actually get it organized before winter, air out the garage from all the summer heat, and then have less to do next spring!

There are a lot of ways to keep the garage organized. Our favorite way is to put shelves on the walls and then get storage bins that we can mark and then stack them. Keeps it all organized  and easy to get to! If you are looking for ideas there are a lot of inspiration boards on Pinterest!

What To Do When Your Garage Door Opener Stops Working

Hopefully it’s not a familiar scenario: You pull into your driveway and aim your garage door opener remote at your garage door and the receiver inside, like always. You wait. Nothing happens. You click the button on your remote again, to no avail. Obviously, there’s something wrong with either the remote, the garage door, or the receiver — but which? And how do you find out? Luckily, finding the source of the problem only requires the problem solving skills of a middle schooler. Here’s how you can easily determine whether the problem is the remote, the garage door, or the receiver using a logical process of elimination.

Most garage door opening systems come with two remote controls and you should test both. If one remote works and the other doesn’t, then you know the problem is with a specific remote, not the receiver. If this is the case, you can put money on the remote having a dead battery, an extremely easy fix. Most remotes work with a standard AA or AAA battery.

If both remotes fail to open the garage door, then the problem is probably with the receiver mounted onto the garage door opener machinery, and not with either of the remotes. If either the button installed inside the garage or the keypad outside can open the door, but the hand held remotes won’t work, then the problem is related to the radio transmission system in the garage door opener. Solving both these problems is relatively easy as well. Most of the parts for the most common garage door brands can be purchased online. That includes replacing a bum remote, ordering a replacement garage door opener receiver, or ordering a completely new radio control system.

This is one of the most compelling reasons to go with a common, brand name garage door opener system in the first place: should the parts ever break down, they’re always easy to replace. Sticking with a reliable name brand system will mean you’ll be protected from having to completely throw out your system should something go haywire.

Las Vegas Garage Doors | 6 Common Problems with Your Automatic Garage Door

When your automatic garage door suddenly stops working properly, the first impulse is probably to run to your phone and call your garage repair technician. But there are many common problems with garage doors that you can fix yourself if you know what to look for. Below are some common problems with automatic doors and how to address them before calling in the experts.
1. The automatic garage door only closes partway and then opens again. This is a common problem that may mean something is blocking the sensors, usually indicated by a blinking light.
2. The door won’t open or close at all. It could be as simple as replacing the batteries in the remote control, or it could be an issues with the keypad or the programming.
3. The automatic garage door won’t open. Check for broken cables, a bent track, or a worn pulley.
4. The door opens too slowly. Check for worn out springs and replace.
5. The automatic garage door makes a squeaking sound, a popping sound, or a scraping sound. Squeaking is a sign that the rollers need lubricating, popping is a sign that the rollers need replacing, and a possible source of the scraping sound is a frayed cable.
6. The automatic garage door opens and closes randomly. Check the batteries in the remote and try changing your code — it could be two radio signals getting crossed.
If you try these solutions but the problem persists, it may be time to call the garage door repair professional to help you out. However, to prevent problems from occurring in the first place, it’s a good idea to care for your automatic garage door with monthly maintenance. Test that the opener is working properly, and inspect the track, springs, pulleys, rollers, cables, and track. Finally, make sure that any metal parts that move are well lubricated.

Garage Door Technicians at Las Vegas Garage Doors

If you’ve ever called a garage door technician to repair your garage door, you may have wondered what it takes to be a garage door technician.   How did he get to where he is? And how did she repair your garage door so expertly?

What is a garage door technician?

A garage door technician is the person you call to install, service, and repair garage doors or garage door opening systems. Garage door installation is typically very demanding work, requiring a lot of heavy lifting of both materials and power tools. A garage door technician has specialized knowledge, much of which is learned on actual job sites through hands on experience.
An experienced garage door technician will complete repairs quickly. Servicing a garage door involves checking that safety features are functioning properly, and adjusting settings as necessary so the door operates smoothly. Experienced technicians will also be expected to perform in a variety of environments: new construction, older homes, or at businesses or commercial properties. Experienced technicians are expected to be leaders, as they will need to advise onsite construction crews, homeowners, or business owners, or they may be asked to mentor less experienced members of the crew.
Earning potential for a garage door technician varies from state to state. In general, garage door technicians with a strong record of customer satisfaction will earn more. However, the industry is experiencing faster than average growth as the construction of new homes and businesses increases with the improving economy.

Las Vegas Garage Doors | Insulating your garage door?

When you think of insulating your garage door do you laugh? You probably think that sounds a bit crazy since you live in Vegas where it is hot most of the year. But insulation doesn’t just keep heat in during the colder times of the year, it also helps keep the cold air from escaping and the really hot air from getting in during the hottest parts of the year.

Your garage door is the biggest door on your house. If you don’t have it insulated it can easily let all of the cold air from your air conditioning inside your house out and all the hot air right into your garage and then into your home. So, you could actually save a lot of money on ac if you properly insulated your garage door.

If your current door isn’t insulated it may be possible to insulate the door, but it might be best to just buy a new garage door that is already insulated. It could actually save you money if your garage door is older or needing repairs to just buy a brand new one that will last for decades to come. If you need help with figuring out the best option please give us a call!

Worst case scenarios when garage door safety wanes

Are you one of the many homeowners out there that is unsure of what goes in to garage door safety?  Are you one of the many homeowenrs out there who just simply does not care about garage door safety?  If you answered yes to either of these, good for you–  You’re ignorant to a very serious problem plaguing our neighborhoods.  Garage doors are very dangerous machines, and they need to be treated with the utmost respect.  Of course, I can sit here all day and tell you about this, or I could give you a few scenarios that could be serious issues if you don’t keep up on safety:

  1. Let’s say you haven’t had your photoelectric eyes tested, and they’re actually faulty, but you don’t know it.  You go to close your garage door, and suddenly your kid starts to run into the garage thinking they’ll be able to make it.  They trip, and fall, and are now lying directly in the path of the garage door as it’s closing.  With those faulty eyes, your garage door will not stop until it’s all the way closed.
  2. Let’s say your emergency release system hasn’t been tested, and it’s actually faulty.  Let’s say there’s a fire in your home and you try and escape through your garage–  Your home has lost power, and you need to operate your garage door manually. . .  But because the emergency release is faulty, you’re now trapped in your garage.
  3. Finally, let’s say you have your classic car sticking out of the garage a little, but you haven’t had your reversing system tested lately.  Instead of immediately reversing at the slightest amount of force, your garage door continued to try and shut on your car, damaging your beauty, and wearing out your garage door opener while it’s stuck.

See why garage door safety is important?

Las Vegas Garage Doors | Pool Party for your garage door?

So, it’s summer. Which means it is crazy hot outside. Luckily we can either sit in our house with air-conditioning, go somewhere with air-conditioning or jump in a nice swimming pool. Great! Let’s give your garage door a break and let it have a swim day too! Wait, we can’t do that can we?

The point of this is to remember that your garage door is working even harder to operate when it is this hot outside and you want to give it a break as much as you possibly can. This means try to only use the door before sunrise and after sunset. This will help it not have to operate during the hottest parts of the day. If possible try not to use the door as much as possible even when the sun is down during these hotter months of the year.

You take care of yourself and other things like your car, but we tend to forget our garage door. Poor thing. Let’s not abandon our garage doors this crazy summer, let’s show them the appreciation they deserve for working every day in and out over and over to open and close our garage door and give us security when it closes tightly.

If you do run into any issues with your garage door please give us a call here at Las Vegas Garage Doors so we can help you get it working right again!

Open Indicator Monitors- All you need to know!

Open indicator monitors are an often overlooked accessory to the garage door system, and we would argue that the biggest reason for that is because no one truly understands how useful they are, or what it is they actually do.  So let us shed some light on this so that you can be an informed homeowner that will make the right decision regarding open indicator monitors.  Where do we begin?

First off, here’s a little bit about what they are:  Open indicator monitors are a simple monitoring system that installs at your garage door and does what their name says; they indicate to you whether or not your garage door is open or not.  It’s a sort of line of defense for you in the quest for garage door safety.

So, why would someone want, or need one of these installed on their garage door?  Simple.  Since your garage door is often just another door to your home, if it’s left open, that is a huge issue for the safety and security of your home.  So to help counter that and ensure that the garage door is not left open, you can have this simple piece of equipment installed that will help remind you if a lapse in security has occured.

Finally, who is an open indicator monitor right for?  Well. . .  This question is kind of subjective, and we could go on for some time about who should have one.  Here are some of the obvious candidates:  People with kids that go in and out of the garage a lot (since kids tend to be forgetful); people with elders living with them; and people who just have the habit of being forgetful.

We would argue that open indicator monitors are for everyone, but those are the people that are in dire need of them.

Las Vegas Garage Doors | The Heat and the 4th!

Ohhhh boy summer is in full swing here in Vegas. In fact, it is almost Independence Day! Which means you will probably have friends and family over to celebrate. This makes it the perfect time to have someone come out and test all the bells and whistles on your garage door to ensure that no one will get hurt this Holiday weekend. The last thing you want to have to deal with is an accident happening because your garage door wasn’t working right and you put it off and you spend the Holiday in the ER.

It is also a great time to have the door checked out because of how hot it has been. As you are probably well aware the heat can really take a toll on your garage door so it is even more important living in a really hot climate to have the door checked out frequently to avoid any unnecessary damage or repairs.

Our techs are here to help whenever you run into an issue. So, even if you have the worst case scenario happen and the door does happen to break on the 4th we can still help you out. We want to keep you and your family safe and will do everything we can to make that happen and making sure you have a garage door that securely closes is part of that.
